A reason to Yale

CROMWELL, Conn. – Bob Heintz doesn’t stand out at many PGA Tour events but this week’s Travelers Championship is the exception. Heintz attended Yale, which is located in New Haven about 30 minutes down Interstate-91.

“It’s nice to be here, get a little support,” said Heintz, who is using a “Yale” golf bag and wearing a hat from his alma mater.

Heintz said he and his caddie were going to try and slip down to New Haven to play Yale Golf Club, the C.B. Macdonald classic, this week.

Thoughts from his college days came up last week as Heintz watched the U.S. Open at Bethpage. The Black Course used to host the Ivy League championship, an event Heintz won as an individual three consecutive years (1990, ’91, ’92).

“I joke, but if I ever get into an Open there I’d be the favorite,” he said.
